As NJ-based residential movers, we know that for many people, their kitchens are one of the hardest rooms they’ll have to pack. Plus, with all the small items, cupboards, and drawers, there’s just so much stuff you’ll need to pack and organize so it can be easily unpacked when you finally get to your new home.
To help make it easier for you to pack and unpack your kitchen, we’d like to offer the following tips.
Select which items you will and won’t be bringing – Not everyone brings all that they own to their new homes. So, before you start packing your kitchen items, select the ones you plan on bringing and/or using, and not bringing to your new home. In addition, if you don’t plan on bringing everything, you can also donate leftover items to food banks, shelters, or even have a garage sale.
Create a kitchen “essentials” box – There’s no doubt about it, moving is hectic and tiring, and you may want to take a day or two to begin the “real unpacking.” However, we also know you may need some essential kitchen items to use during the first couple of days. So, pack a handful of food items, dishes, cutlery, towels, and soap in one box that can be easily accessed during those first 48 hours. This will make everything much easier as you won’t have to open every box to find the essentials you need.
Begin the process by packing not frequently used items first – Some of the items you should start packing first include any crystal, vases, food storage containers, wine glasses, cookbooks, mixing bowls, special utensils like meat mallets and barbecue tongs, wall hangings, and pictures.
Prepare larger kitchen appliances for the move last – If need to bring some or all your larger kitchen appliances, you should prepare them to be moved 24 hours ahead of time. Hasty or improper preparation can lead to broken parts or appliances, or in the worst-case scenario, a gas leak.
These are just a few of the tips you can consider to make packing your kitchen easier. To learn more about how we can aid you in packing or moving, or the storage services we have available in NJ, please browse our site, or give us a call.
